The Head Chef at Human Kind Café leads the delivery of high-quality, nourishing vegan and vegetarian dishes, while helping lead a positive, inclusive kitchen environment. This role combines culinary creativity with a commitment to our social mission, supporting skill development, sustainability, and community connection.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS

  • Plan and prepare seasonal, sustainable vegan and vegetarian menus
  • Lead service and ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Oversee food prep, stock rotation, and waste management
  • Order ingredients and supplies as needed
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness
  • Support and mentor all kitchen staff. Handle all kitchen staff issues such as attendance and sick leave
  • Oversee maintenance of kitchen equipment and organise repairs when needed
  • Make sound business/financial decisions regarding stock and equipment
  • Contribute to our inclusive training programme for community members
  • Support ad hoc community training events
  • Open up the café and/or lock up when required.

EXPERTISE REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or a strong Sous Chef ready to step up
  • Creativity and superior culinary skills
  • Level 3 or above in Catering or equivalent qualification
  • The ability to constantly perform well in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
  • Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
  • Solid financial acumen, including the ability to manage a budget
  • A passion for plant-based cooking and sustainable food practices
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to lead and motivate a team
  • Creative flair and attention to detail
  • A team player with a calm, can-do attitude
