Job summary

Confidential, based in Gloucester, is seeking an experienced Head Bookkeeper / Company Accountant to own the finance function in a growing SME. You will manage day-to-day bookkeeping, financial reporting and support growth alongside Directors.

The role requires strong Xero skills, CIS experience, VAT knowledge and the ability to produce timely management information. AAT Level 4 or equivalent is desirable. Salary reflects expertise and is paid with uk terms.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper or Company Accountant role.
• Strong working knowledge of Xero and VAT regimes.
• Experience with CIS and construction industry accounting.
• Excellent Excel skills and keen attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day bookkeeping using Xero.
• Processing sales and purchase invoices, expenses and bank reconciliations.
• Managing CIS returns, subcontractor payments and deductions.
• Preparing VAT returns, including domestic reverse charge.
• Producing monthly management accounts, P&L and cash flow summaries.
• Monitoring aged debtors, creditors and payment schedules.
• Managing project costs, retentions and contract profitability.
• Processing payroll journals and supporting payroll activities.
• Preparing financial information and reports for the Directors.
• Maintaining accurate financial records and HMRC compliance.
