Prison-Cleared Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) - Substance Misuse (DART Service)

Location: Stockton-on-Tees, Durham

Band: B3 HCSW

Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:30 (approx.)

Austin Dean Recruitment is seeking an experienced, prison-cleared Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) to join the Drug & Alcohol Recovery Team (DART Service) within a prison in Stockton-on-Tees.

This is a rewarding opportunity in a challenging environment, where you will play a vital role in supporting patients undergoing withdrawal from substance misuse and alcohol dependency.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out assessments for patients presenting with withdrawal from alcohol or opioids.
  • Apply recognised clinical assessment tools:
  • CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol)
  • COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale)
  • Support the multidisciplinary team in the safe management of withdrawal symptoms.
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centred care in line with prison healthcare standards.
Qualifications
  • Current prison clearance and proven experience in a secure environment.
  • Previous experience within substance misuse services.
  • Working knowledge and practical application of CIWA and COWS assessment tools.
  • Strong assessment, observation, and communication skills.
