Job summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assist in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Undertake general patient observations including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels, as per NICE Guidelines. Record general appearance, fluid balance, and report any untoward findings to the registered health professional.

Under supervision of the registered health professional, undertake a range of clinical duties and skills such as insertion and removal of venous cannulae, removal of urinary catheters, undertaking simple dry dressings using aseptic technique, venepuncture, collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing, preparation and assistance in clinical procedures, and ECG recordings. Participate in the evaluation of care and the completion of patient documentation.

Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations calmly.

Undertake transfer and escort of patients as directed by the supervising registered health professional, depending on the patient's dependency, to theatres, catheter labs, and other clinical departments for investigations.

Ensure the safe disposal of waste and sharps as per Trust policy.

Care for patient's property and valuables in accordance with Trust policy.

Support the roles of ward clerk and patient liaison clerk.
