Job description

We are looking for a HCA to join our friendlyestablished team at a lovely practice in Plaistow E13. Must haveexperience of working in General Practice and hold an NVQ 3 in health and social care

Working under the direct supervision of the nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines andprotocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team inthe provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

New patient health checks

Managing long term conditions

Processing and management of laboratory samplesrequested by GPs and nurses

Vaccine and cold chain storage, monitoring andrecording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking andstock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments andequipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance ofpatients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for namedpatients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to thatindividual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-beingand how it can be promoted

Essex Lodge Surgery is an expanding PMS and teaching practice serving approximately17,000+ patients in London Borough of Newham with 2 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, 2 regularlocum GPs, 1 GP Registrar, , 1 Nurse Prescriber, 3 Practice Nurses, and 1 nurse associate (NA), 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 1 Prescribing Pharmacist, 1 physiotherapist and afriendly admin and managerial team.Practice is located in Plaistow, London (E13 0AS) less than 10 minutes walk from Plaistowunderground station.

Job responsibilities

We are a busy, 17,000+ general practice in beautiful East London looking for a HCA with aflexible approach, can-do attitude and a strong commitment to the aims andvalues of primary care to join our friendly, professional team. The practicehas a good CQC rating in all areas and prides itself on maintaining highstandards of care.

The healthcare assistant at Essex Lodge Surgery will be expected to undertake various clinical activities that support our patients' health and well being.

Confidence with healthcare vocabularly and a good understanding of the basics of physiology to be able to offer universal health advice confidently to patients when undertaking NHS Health Checks or to explain why procedures might be needed.

The ability to perform venepuncture is essential, with the confidence to take samples from multiple points on the body, as well as capillary blood tests for specific investigations.

Experience confidently fitting various investigative measurement devices, such as BP Machines as well as more obvious devices like scales and measuring tapes!

Finally the ability to build a professional rapport with patients, to demonstrate confidence in your ability and ensure any investigations are comfortable and calm.
