Job description

Basic Salary £27,236 to £33,990 per annum

Ability to earn up to 15% of your salary in our annual bonus scheme, max bonus payable £4,085 to £5,098 per annum

Overtime available at an enhanced rate

Are you a highly motivated individual looking to start or expand your aquaculture career? We are currently looking for passionate and highly motivated individuals to make a difference at the Company’s Recirculation Unit at Inchmore. The role is challenging, but ultimately very rewarding and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career progression opportunities.

If you are ambitious and motivated and want to work with a likeminded team, then this is the role for you. The successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week or an average of 40 hours where your shift pattern rotates over more than one week. The successful candidate will also be expected to be part of a weekly alarm rota and will be required to stay on site providing 24 hours call out cover. We can offer support with commuting from the Inverness or Fort William area.

About the job

The Hatchery technician role is a crucial part of the operations process and ensures that the best management of our salmon is undertaken. We need our technicians to strive for continuous improvement and deliver on all aspects of farm work to keep the team on track and performing well. The job includes, but is not limited to:

  • Leading on feed, control and inspection of fish
  • Operation and maintenance of the RAS systems
  • Monitoring and maintaining fish health and welfare
  • Respond to hatchery alarms when assigned on-call
  • Proactive approach to Health & Safety practices throughout the hatchery
  • General farm tasks to keep the whole operation running

The ideal candidate should have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job.

  • A degree in Biological sciences, or equivalent, is advantageous
  • Previous experience in freshwater operations will be an advantage, but not essential, as training will be provided
  • Flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job
  • High degree of computer literacy is essential.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to understand the aims of the site and to support the rest of the team to achieve these
  • Respect for the need for safe working practices
  • Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? Don’t worry, we can help with the cost of lessons
