Job description

Harrison Assistant Prof and CRiSM Research Fellow at Warwick

Two more opportunities exist for outstanding early career researchers to join the Department of Statistics at Warwick.

The Department’s research spans a broad range of areas in applied, computational, methodological and theoretical statistics, data science, machine learning, theoretical and applied probability, finance and interdisciplinary collaboration. Its teaching programmes attract exceptional students at all levels. It comprises around 800 undergraduate students on degree courses in MORSE, Mathematics and Statistics and Data Science and 120 postgraduate students on the MSc Statistics, MSc Mathematical Finance and PhD degree streams. Major strategic initiatives include the research centre CRiSM, which acts as a catalyst for research across the breadth of the Department, the Applied Statistics & Risk Unit (AS&RU), which promotes and coordinates external partnerships, and the national Academy for PhD Training in Statistics(APTS). The Department has close relations with the co-located Mathematics Institute and Department of Computer Science and with other departments such as Economics and the Warwick Business School and is strongly engaged with the Alan Turing Institute in London.

The Harrison Assistant Professorship is a 3-year fixed-term position and part of a rolling programme of Harrison early-career posts. The appointment will carry a lower teaching load and is intended for applicants with evidence or promise of world-class research excellence in Statistics (to be interpreted in the widest sense as above).

The CRiSM Research Fellowship is a 3-year research fellowship and part of a rolling programme arising from University investment in CRiSM. The fellowship is designed to allow an outstanding early-career academic to develop their own high-quality research programme, with mentoring provided by Warwick colleagues.

The Department of Statistics is committed to promoting equality and diversity, holding an Athena SWAN Silver award which demonstrates this commitment. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community and will give due consideration to applicants seeking flexible working patterns, and to those who have taken a career break. Further information about working at the University of Warwick, including information about childcare provision, career development and relocation is at https://warwick.ac.uk/services/humanresources/workinghere/.

Informal enquires can be addressed to Professors Jon Forster (J.J.Forster@warwick.ac.uk) or Adam Johansen (A.M.Johansen@warwick.ac.uk) or to any other senior member of the Warwick Statistics Department.

Closing date: January 26, 2023

As part of the application, applicants are expected to submit a research plan, of up to 3 pages, detailing their planned research programme for the duration of the fellowship. Applicants should also ask their referees to send letters of recommendation in advance of the closing date to Paula.Matthews@warwick.ac.uk.
