Job description

Assistant Professor (teaching-focused) at Warwick

This is an opportunity to join the Department of Statistics at Warwick at the Assistant Professor level, in an education-focused role.

The Department’s teaching programmes attract exceptional students at all levels. It comprises around 800 undergraduate students on degree courses in MORSE, Mathematics and Statistics and Data Science and 120 postgraduate students on the MSc Statistics, MSc Mathematical Finance and PhD degree streams. The Department has close relations with the co-located Mathematics Institute and Department of Computer Science and with other departments such as Economics and the Warwick Business School and is strongly engaged with the Alan Turing Institute in London. Its research spans a broad range of areas in applied, computational, methodological and theoretical statistics, data science, theoretical and applied probability, finance and interdisciplinary collaboration.

We are looking for an excellent academic with the enthusiasm and drive to help deliver the Department’s internationally renowned degree courses (both undergraduate and postgraduate). The successful applicant will have a track record of high-quality university teaching in statistics (to be interpreted broadly to include underpinning mathematics). They will work closely with other departmental academic and administrative staff, contributing directly to the delivery of high-quality education in statistics and probability at Warwick, developing appropriate responses to new challenges and ensuring the continued smooth running of all courses. This post has been created as part of a strategic development to enhance student engagement activities in the Department and the postholder will be expected to play a leading role in developing this element of our education strategy.

The Department of Statistics is committed to promoting equality and diversity, holding an Athena SWAN Silver award which demonstrates this commitment. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community and will give due consideration to applicants seeking flexible working patterns, and to those who have taken a career break. Further information about working at the University of Warwick, including information about childcare provision, career development and relocation is at https://warwick.ac.uk/services/humanresources/workinghere/.
