Hardware Expert HVDC Control & Protection - Manchester, UK
About the Role
As a Hardware Expert for HVDC Control and Protection, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors. This role involves utilizing a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester.
Your Responsibilities
- Prepare hardware designs and circuit diagrams for control & protection panels for HVDC systems.
- Handle technical documents, cost calculations, circuit diagrams, and manuals during offer stage and project execution.
- Design BCU-based substation control systems for HVDC systems.
- Program databases for hardware configuration and signal management.
- Implement control software and verify using simulation tools and real-time test environments.
- Supervise workshops during panel manufacturing and support acceptance/functional tests, including occasional business trips.
- Clarify technical requirements within project teams, with customers and suppliers.
- Prepare work packages for sub-suppliers and oversee their work.
- Provide remote support during commissioning and service of HVDC systems.
Your Skills and Qualifications
- University degree in electrical engineering or comparable professional training with significant experience.
- Excellent knowledge of hardware for control & protection panels for high voltage substations or energy plants.
- Good knowledge of parameterization of bay control units (BCUs), ideally SIPROTEC 5 devices with DIGSI and CFC.
- Experience with Engineering Base or similar CAE tools.
- Knowledge of measuring and instrumentation technologies for high voltage systems, including Power Quality and Fault Recording Systems.
- Understanding of high voltage and substation technology, interlocking schemes, and automated control sequences.
- Good knowledge of secondary interfaces of high voltage components.
- Fluent in English; German is a plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
