Job description

We are looking for an assistant to help with the administration and smooth running of the agency

Hardman & Swainson LLP is a literary agency currently comprising three agents: Caroline Hardman, Joanna Swainson and Hannah Ferguson, with Rights Director Hana Murrell. We represent a diverse range of authors across the spectrum of genres in both fiction and non-fiction and sell their literary and film rights throughout the world.

We are looking for an assistant to help with the administration and smooth running of the agency. This is a varied job which offers experience of all aspects of literary management.

Key components of the job include, but are not limited to, general office duties, tracking contracts and assisting with royalties, assisting the Rights Director with translation rights, keeping the website up to date and being responsible for the agency social media, managing submissions, liaising with publishers and authors where appropriate, reading manuscripts and feeding back to agents.

To succeed in this role you must have excellent written English, and the ability to communicate and converse at all levels; work methodically, within time constraints and at times with minimal supervision; be able to learn new systems / software quickly; be able to prioritise tasks and work co-operatively as a member of our small team.

Remuneration: £26,000 pa
Working hours: 9.30-17.30 Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch.
Location: at our office in Somerset House for a minimum of three days a week, with the other two days either in the office or at home.
