Job summary

Forth Ports Ltd seeks an experienced Tug Master to operate ASD/ATD/Voith Harbour Tugs across Scotland, including base locations at Forth and Leith. You will lead safety, compliance and crew onboarding while ensuring vessel readiness and adherence to SMS, MMS and environmental procedures.

The role offers a full-time permanent contract with rotation options, private medical insurance and generous pension contributions. Live-aboard and ongoing certification support are provided.

Qualifications

• Experienced Tug Master with Master 500gt certification.
• Good Harbour Towage experience essential.
• Offshore towage experience desirable.
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
• Exceptional health, safety and risk management awareness.
• Must have full UK working rights.

Responsibilities

• Commanding and operating the vessel per regulations and SMS.
• Conducting onboard reviews of the SMS and proposing improvements.
• Ensuring Rules, Regulations, Codes, Guidelines and Publications are up-to-date onboard.
• Ensuring the vessel is manned in accordance with flag regulations.
• Overseeing crew familiarisation, induction and OJT.
• Drafting and testing contingency plans for onboard emergencies.
• Conducting inspections under MMS.
• Conducting safety drills per SMS and flag regulations.
• Maintaining routine maintenance per MMS.
• Investigating non-conformities and reporting to the Company.
• Producing monthly reports for SMS, MMS and vessel management.
• Keeping the Deck Logbook and waste management compliant.
• Chairing safety meetings and recording action minutes.
• Ensuring Control of Work system is effective.
• Conducting weekly accommodation inspections.
• Identifying training needs and conducting/appraisals.
• Monitoring certificate validity.
• Keeping the company informed of important issues.
• Monitoring crew morale and exercising leadership.
• Building teamwork; handling disciplinary matters per SMS.
• Conducting environmental audits and SOPEP reviews annually.
• Issuing Masters standing Orders as needed.
