Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Harbour Operative for Whitby Harbour. The role involves supporting harbour services to residents and visitors throughout the season, ensuring safety and smooth operation of maritime activities.

The successful candidate will perform maintenance and safety checks, handle payments and access tokens, and assist with berthing and enquiries, while occasionally covering watchkeeping duties during holidays.

Qualifications

• Experience of Whitby Harbour and handling general harbour duties.
• Ability to perform manual labour and follow safety practices.
• Good customer service and ability to deal with vessel owners.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and safety checks on the harbour
• Taking payments and issuing security access fobs & electric tokens to owners as necessary
• Undertake general harbour maintenance including painting, minor repairs and ensuring cleanliness of the associated facilities and maintaining a safe working harbour environment
• Safely receive visiting leisure vessels and allocation of appropriate berths, collecting dues and dealing with general enquiries, providing appropriate advice.
• Act as a relief watchkeeper covering the watchkeeping staff over holidays and absences as required.
