Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Harbour Operative to join Whitby Harbour's team, delivering essential services to residents and visitors during the season.

You will perform maintenance and safety checks, handle payments, issue access fobs and tokens, and assist with berthing of visiting vessels while promoting the harbour's offerings.

The role also includes general harbour maintenance, painting, basic repairs, cleanliness, and relief watchkeeping during holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and safety checks on the harbour
• Taking payments and issuing security access fobs & electric tokens to owners as necessary
• Undertake general harbour maintenance including painting, minor repairs and ensuring cleanliness of the associated facilities and maintaining a safe working harbour environment
• Safely receive visiting leisure vessels and allocation of appropriate berths, collecting dues and dealing with general enquiries, providing appropriate advice
• Act as a relief watchkeeper covering the watchkeeping staff over holidays and absences as required
