Job description

Are you a skilled and versatile handyperson looking to contribute to the maintenance and smooth operation of a leading local authority? West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Adult Social Care Service as a Handyperson, providing essential support to ensure the highest standards of care are delivered to our service users.

The Role

As a Handyperson, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of maintenance and repair tasks across the Adult Social Care Service. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing general maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and joinery work
  • Conducting regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and proactively addressing issues
  • Assisting with the installation and removal of equipment as required
  • Ensuring a safe and suitable environment for service users by carrying out necessary adaptations
  • Reporting any significant issues to the Registered Manager

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Proven experience in a similar handyperson or maintenance role
  • Sound knowledge of general maintenance practices across various trades
  • Ability to work independently, prioritising tasks and managing time effectively
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise with colleagues and service providers
  • Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify and address maintenance issues

Additionally, a full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for this role, as you will be required to travel between sites.

This role is fixed term until February 2026 – Interim support (short term organisational change)
