Job summary

Royal London is seeking a hands‑on Technical Lead for the Data Automation team at Alderley Park. You will provide technical leadership, guidance and operational oversight, combining engineering excellence with leadership to design, develop and support scalable data solutions.

You will mentor a team of up to seven, drive a clear technical direction for data engineering, and collaborate across the wider data community to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• Deep technical knowledge of data engineering and large‑scale processing.
• Hands‑on technical lead with design, build, review and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience building production data solutions with Python, SQL, Databricks and cloud services.
• Strong data architecture, security and privacy understanding.
• Excellent problem solving with automation mindset.
• Strong communication and leadership across teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to the Data Automation team.
• Hands‑on role in design, development, review and delivery of data engineering solutions.
• Coordinate data engineering deliverables, set goals and timelines.
• Develop and communicate a clear technical direction for data engineering.
• Identify opportunities to introduce modern technologies and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure data infrastructure meets needs.
• Lead and develop a team of up to seven colleagues.
