Job summary

Nicholas Associates in Sheffield is seeking a Mechanical Assembly and Test Technician to join a growing client team. This hands-on role moves between workshop duties and technical testing to support development of engineering solutions.

You will assemble, modify and test equipment, record data accurately and maintain documentation for engineering investigations, while assisting with component sourcing and testing activities.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical experience in workshop, assembly, maintenance or test environment.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
• Skilled in mechanical assembly, fitting and measurement with tools.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean, organised workshop with tool care and consumables management.
• Coordinate goods in, check deliveries against orders and specifications.
• Assemble, modify and maintain mechanical equipment using drawings, P&IDs and work instructions.
• Carry out visual and dimensional inspections and record findings.
• Prepare test equipment and data acquisition setup; ensure readiness before testing.
• Operate equipment and conduct tests per procedures; monitor performance and escalate hazards.
• Capture and organise test data; support investigations and development decisions.
• Produce clear test reports and maintain equipment configuration records.
• Assist engineering in sourcing test rig components and instrumentation.
• Maintain calibration records for tools and measuring equipment.
• Contribute to risk assessments and improvements in workshop/testing activities.
