Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College invites applications for a full-time Animal Management lecturer to teach Levels 1–3, guiding students towards animal care, veterinary support, kennel and cattery work, zoo roles, and conservation.

You'll deliver engaging lessons, assess work, monitor progress, support personal tutoring, and contribute to curriculum development. A degree or vocational qualification in Animal Management, plus a teaching qualification or progress towards one, is required.

Qualifications

Degree or vocational qualification in Animal Management or a related area.
Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one; support to get there.
GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent; can work towards during probation.

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver lessons across Levels 1 to 3, building both technical knowledge and practical skills.
Mark work, give feedback, and use results to shape teaching.
Monitor attendance, promote positive behaviour, and record student progress.
Act as Personal Tutor and support students through their course and next steps.
Contribute to curriculum development, department initiatives, and recruitment activities.
Keep subject knowledge current as practice and welfare standards develop.
