Overview

Job purpose

The Haematology and Transplant Day Unit is looking to recruit a highly motivated, energetic and efficient team player to join the Haematology Directorate. The post holder will be able to work on their own initiative, prioritise their own workload, and support the efficient running of the Haematology Administrative team. The post holder will also assist the Medical and Nursing teams with clerical tasks, such as ensuring clinics are properly prepared and scheduling appointments. The post holder will be well organised, have a pleasant and approachable manner, be proactive, able to use initiative, and able to work in a busy, fast-paced environment. Good communication and IT skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Use the scheduling system to plan patients' day case admissions, liaising closely with the clinical team about capacity to ensure efficient flow of patients within the department. General reception duties including greeting patients, booking patients into clinics and outgoing appointments.
  • Adhere to all written instructions on the clinic proformas with regard to scheduling and booking of appointments.
  • Add to waiting lists for day case investigations taking instruction from a booking form.
  • Deal compassionately with distressing situations.
  • Clinic preparation to ensure that all clinical notes and forms are present.
Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 3, equivalent qualification or experience

Desirable

  • Evidence of further development
  • European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
Experience

  • Experience in a patient/customer facing role
  • Experience of dealing with patients/customers over the telephone

  • Previous administrative and clerical experience in an NHS hospital environment
  • Experience/knowledge of hospital patient administrative systems
