South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff. This training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the following training sessions:

  • Leading your Team to Success
  • Leading Into the Future
  • Service Improvement for Beginners
  • Developing your Service Improvement Skills

The leadership and improvement programme aims to:

  • Explore leadership within the NHS
  • Promote Trust values and behaviours
  • Develop your leadership effectiveness and skills
  • Equip staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead and complete service improvements within the scope of your role.

After you complete these six and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house and externally provided courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic candidate with a flexible approach to work. The post holder will provide technical management to the haematology team and be responsible for ensuring the operational safety and best practice of the department - for the benefit of the clinical care of patients within the hospital and community. The successful candidate will have proven operational management skills.

Haematology is a dynamic and forward thinking department providing an expert 24/7 service across all our hospital sites. You will hold an FIBMS and/or MSc and/or HSD (or equivalent experience) and a recognised management qualification (or equivalent experience). Where equivalence is being used to meet these essential criteria, please provide details in your supporting statement. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to CPD, have excellent interpersonal and time-management skills.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • FIBMS and / or MSc and / or Chartered Scientist in an appropriate discipline
  • Higher Specialist Diploma or equivalent level experience (demonstrated on application).
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered biomedical scientist.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
Experience
  • Experience of using instrumentation and specialised techniques within the department.
Knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques and Biomedical Science.
  • Basic working knowledge of Pathology IT systems.
  • Understanding of specialist activities and management knowledge acquired through training to master\'s equivalent of knowledge plus further specialist training to doctorate level or equivalent advanced or specialised knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory health and safety legislation, staff management issues, current legislation, EU Directives, ISO standards and Health Care Professions Council / Institute of Biomedical Science training and CPD requirements
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and safety measures.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity for procedures where precision is required Basic key-board skills
  • IT literate in Microsoft Office.
