Detailed job description and main responsibilities

During regular clinical sessions, act as a role model and teacher, working alongside other staff including visiting all patients in the ward in the absence of the Ward manager.

Work with the Ward manager to identify hazards relating to clinical and non-clinical risks and undertake identified risk assessments. Ensure that junior staff also see this as important by maintaining a culture which will support the delivery of both clinical and non-clinical governance within the ward or department.

Along with the Ward manager, support the ward or department team in completing appropriate risk assessments and develop action plans accordingly in order to provide a safe environment for the delivery of high quality patient care.

Ensure that all nursing documentation is regularly and appropriately reviewed and updated with changes implemented.

Essential criteria

  • NMC Registration
  • Chemotherapy trained
  • SSSA qualification
  • Continuing professional development
  • IV Trained

Desirable criteria

  • Leadership/management training
  • Teaching qualification
  • Venepuncture and cannulation trained

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience in haematology
  • Link role or project work
  • Able to manage a team
  • Problem solving skills
  • Supervision of non-registered staff and newly qualified nurses

Desirable criteria

  • Audit or research experience
  • Experience in implementing change into clinical practice

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to problem solve

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro-rata basis for part-time workers.
