We have an opportunity for a PCO Company Driver to join our team. You will be required to work Monday to Friday, participating in flexible hours with core working times between 07:00 - 09:00 and 14:30 – 16:30.

Job purpose: A PCO company driver is responsible for driving passenger-carrying vehicles, providing good customer service, and ensuring safe and comfortable journeys within HATS home-to-school services.

About The Role
Main duties:
  • Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
  • Wear high visibility PPE in vehicle movement areas.
  • Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.

Check the condition of the vehicle prior to commencing service by:

  • Carrying out the safety walk-round check.
  • Reporting any vehicle or equipment defects promptly.
  • Completing the Vehicle Defect Card or entering defects on the electronic ticket machine.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is clean and tidy before starting service.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Compliance with laws and company regulations regarding mobile phones, smoking, and prohibited equipment.
  • Responsibility for health, safety, security, welfare, environmental, and fire safety arrangements.
  • Attending safety briefings and training as required.
  • Reporting safety incidents using the company's procedures.
  • Understanding emergency and evacuation plans.
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy bus cab area.
  • Providing high standards of customer service and information during journeys.
  • Behaving professionally and friendly towards customers and colleagues.
  • Recognizing and assisting vulnerable or disabled passengers.
  • Driving safely, legally, and professionally, adhering to timetables.
  • Staying updated on road conditions and service disruptions.
  • Holding a valid driving license and Person PCO License at all times, available for inspection.

A Driver Must Ensure That:

  • Their licenses are valid and up to date.
  • Any license changes affecting driving rights are communicated promptly.
  • Licenses are available for inspection every 6 months.
  • They report to work on time, with the correct equipment and attire.
  • They do not work when overtired or under the influence of substances.
  • All incidents, safety or otherwise, are reported immediately.
  • They participate in annual appraisals and provide feedback for service improvements.
  • Adherence to all HATS policies and procedures is maintained.
  • Any reasonable request from the company is undertaken.

Work Environment

The role involves flexible working hours, primarily outdoors, operating vehicles in various weather and traffic conditions, ensuring safety and efficiency at all times.
