Job description
Overview

The gynaecology outpatient department offers care to patients with complex women’s health issues from a wide-ranging patient demographic. The department runs clinics covering different gynaecology needs (fertility/general/oncology/colposcopy), requiring an ability to understand the differing clinical needs for each clinic and to work to clearly defined policies and procedures.

The post holder will be a registered nurse with the expertise and skills to assess, plan and implement individual patient care and be accountable for their own actions. They will be expected to provide effective, safe, evidence-based patient care in accordance with The Code to women with gynaecological problems in the outpatient setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan and implement individual patient care; be accountable for own actions.
  • Communicate with patients, carers and families; liaise between primary and secondary care to ensure continuity of care; convey sensitive and complex information.
  • Assist in various gynaecological clinics and support doctors and specialist nurses to ensure smooth clinic operation.
  • Take telephone calls and advise patients as needed.
  • Participate in essential audits and contribute to evaluating processes and systems to optimise patient flow.
  • Ensure equipment is in full working order and stock is available.
  • Report issues to the senior nurse and participate in implementing improvements.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Registered nurse with the expertise and skills to assess, plan and implement patient care in the outpatient gynaecology setting.
  • Ability to understand differing clinical needs across clinics (fertility/general/oncology/colposcopy) and work to defined policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to undertake training to gain basic knowledge or competence to assist in procedures carried out within the gynaecological clinics.
  • Effective, safe, evidence-based patient care in accordance with The Code.
  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills; ability to liaise with primary and secondary care and convey complex information clearly.
