Job description

Senior Staff Nurse – Gynaecology Pre-Assessment (FTC)

Location: The Portland Hospital, London

Hours: Part time 26.25 hrs/week

Shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, short days

Contract: Fixed term to cover maternity leave until April 2026

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + Benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits, career development)

Role Overview

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care within the gynaecology pre-operative assessment department, collaborating with the inpatient team to ensure excellent patient care for women undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients scheduled for surgery, identifying potential health concerns.
  2. Educate patients on surgery, anesthesia, and post-operative care, ensuring understanding and cooperation.
  3. Monitor and manage patient care plans to optimize outcomes.

Candidate Requirements
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Extensive knowledge as a qualified nurse
  • Basic adult Life Support certification
  • Competent in cannulation and venepuncture
  • Ability to perform ECG as part of pre-op investigations
  • Support team caring for patients seeking Termination of Pregnancy services
  • Understanding of Safeguarding issues
  • Computer literacy and ability to use clinical systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in gynaecology case loading (desirable)
