About the role
Reporting to the head of the GVCR compliance delivery team, this is a key role which will support the service delivery and growth of the centralised UK, EU, and Global VAT compliance capability in the RSM outsourcing practice. This role has a number of key responsibilities:
- Responsible for insightful analysis of VAT returns/data and timely delivery of UK, EU, and international VAT compliance engagements.
- Central point of contact for clients and critical in providing quality assurance over all indirect tax filings for clients.
- Technically strong to be able to assess & review AP/AR data, transactions, tax codes to determine appropriate VAT treatments and reporting requirements.
- Monitor quality of indirect tax data inputs, reports, and analyze outputs from key data tests performed during client onboarding and as part of the regular return cycle.
- Develop a deep understanding of client’s business model, supply chain, data & ERP system to provide excellent client servicing and to anticipate VAT opportunities.
- Day-to-day monitoring, management, and development of junior members responsible for delivery of compliance services.
- Assist in building a UK/EU & Global VAT compliance knowledge centre/database for clients and delivery team to enhance efficiency and improve client experience.
- Ensure compliance documentation and process notes are kept up to date, reflecting legislative and business changes to ensure accurate VAT reporting.
- Identify issues and opportunities to continuously improve internal compliance processes and involve in process efficiency and transformation projects for clients.
- Any other ad hoc internal projects as they emerge within the GVCR business.
About the ideal candidate
- Excellent VAT compliance technical skills, ideally from a previous European role in practice or industry, with the ability to identify advisory projects from underlying compliance data;
- An interest and strong capability in VAT return processing, process improvement, and technology enablement;
- Ownership and management skills with the ability and experience to manage and guide junior members of staff in the compliance function;
- Effective use of IT, including Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel, extending to Alteryx and similar tools;
- Relationship management – internally and externally;
- Exposure to projects with an international dimension and appreciation of the cultural nuances this generates;
- Ability to organise and manage time efficiently and effectively;
- Skills in functional process-mapping, including attention to detail and ability to identify anomalies;
- Ambitious and motivated – this role has a clear progression path for the right individual.
