Job summary

Uxbridge High School is seeking a proactive Guidance Leader to join the Pastoral team and work with tutors, parents, and external agencies to support student wellbeing and progression.

You will coordinate house groups (Year 7–11), contribute to safeguarding, assemblies, and parental meetings, and help plan personal development with strong organisational and communication skills. Degree level preferred and safeguarding training required.

Qualifications

• Ideally degree-level educated with safeguarding training.
• Experience in an educational setting and responsibility for welfare and development of groups of children.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, including public speaking.

Responsibilities

The Department

The Guidance Leader Department at Uxbridge High School plays a vital role in supporting students' personal, academic, and future development. The team provides a safe and supportive environment, offering guidance on wellbeing, behaviour, and emotional needs to help students feel secure and confident throughout their school journey. They also support students in monitoring academic progress and setting achievable goals, ensuring everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential. In addition, the department offers advice and future planning support, helping students make informed decisions about subject choices and further education. Overall, the department is essential in promoting both student wellbeing and success, preparing young people not only for their time at school but for their future beyond it.

The Role

The school is seeking to recruit a Guidance Leader to work with the Head of Learning (Year) and leadership team to co-ordinate the best possible educational experience for cohorts of students, namely a House (including students from Year 7 to Year 11). You will support and liaise with a group of tutors; you will work closely with external bodies such as social services and the education welfare service; you will arrange and attend parents' evenings and other parental meetings; you will support the organisation and delivery of assemblies and house group events; and will be the first point of call for all pastoral issues relating to students in your house. You will ideally be educated to a degree level, with up-to-date safeguarding training, and will have experience working in an educational environment and responsibility for the welfare and development of groups of children. You will have good organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both oral and written and be confident in public speaking in front of large numbers of students).
