client/child:

Harry is a 6-year-old who is happy, engaging, and cheeky. He loves listening to music, painting, sensory activities, and playing with his two younger brothers. Harry enjoys long walks listening to birds and nature sounds. He has significant complex care and medical needs, requiring 1:1 or 2:1 support from a dedicated care team 24/7. Harry has cerebral palsy, dysphagia, epilepsy with regular seizures, a PEG for nutrition, fluids, and medication, and requires suctioning. He has visual and hearing impairments and uses a wheelchair. He is susceptible to chest infections, with daily chest physiotherapy. Harry communicates using Eye Gaze. He is supported by a loving family who value his care team and maintain a professional, caring environment at home.

Overview of role:
Harry needs an experienced waking night carer to assist with his bedtime routine and support him throughout the night. Occasionally, a sleeping night carer may be on shift and can be woken if Harry needs additional support. The morning routine support will be provided by another team member. This role involves active night support, including monitoring Harry, following protocols during seizures, repositioning, personal care, observing signs of distress, and administering his PEG feed and fluids in the morning. You will also soothe Harry to ensure he is comfortable and rested for the day at school. All activities must be accurately documented. Additional shifts may be available for cover during leave.

Who this job would suit:
A positive, calm, and dedicated Waking Night Carer with excellent complex care experience, preferably with paediatric or childcare background. Non-smokers only.

What’s great about this job:
Harry is an adorable, cheerful young boy who is a pleasure to support. Comprehensive person-centred training will be provided for all aspects of his care and medical needs. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills further.
