client/child:

Frederick (4) is a very loving and active young boy, who lives at home with his Mum and Dad. Frederick excels at and loves swimming. He loves watching Hey Duggee and Disney movies on his iPad, to build and spend time in homemade forts and camps, all genres of music, and he thoroughly enjoys being outside and playing football. He enjoys attending a gymnastics session once a week. He also loves cuddles with his Mum and Dad and family time. Frederick has a diagnosis of Autism, Hypermobility, Hypertonia and is pre-verbal. He needs full support with his social, emotional and language development. He is currently presenting with behaviours that may challenge. Frederick also has some sensory seeking behaviours. Frederick requires reassurance, prompting, supervision and guidance with activities, social relationships, language development, and with his emotional and behavioural needs. He does not like wellington boots, coughs, and sneezes, waiting in line and crowds of people. He can also find transitions tricky if he is absorbed in his activity. Frederick attends speech and language therapy twice a week and is currently attending morning sessions at school.

Overview of role: This will be an incredibly rewarding role, supporting Frederick and his family. Days start at when you will meet Frederick at home after his morning at school. Then the day will consist of lots of play at home and outside. The role of the SEN Nanny/Manny will be to build up a trusting relationship with Frederick and to find and implement techniques and strategies to help him manage his behaviours and develop his social, emotional and language skills. There is a real focus on Fredericks language development, so someone who has experience liaising with SALTs and implementing therapies into children’s daily routines, in fun and engaging ways is essential. Days will include lots of physical activity and time spent outside (weather permitting), so Fredericks SEN Nanny/Manny will need to be energetic and proactive in supporting this. This role includes light domestic tasks relating to Frederick and preparing his meals. Toilet training will be an important focus too. Frederick needs someone who is fun and engaging, but who is also aware of when he needs time on his own. Frederick responds well to routine and consistency. Fredericks parents will benefit hugely from support and advice from the SEN Nanny/Manny, and they would love to be shown some supportive strategies that they can implement with Frederick too.

Who this job would suit : This role will suit a professional, experienced, and energetic, SEN Nanny/Manny, or Speech and Language Therapist, who has fantastic experience supporting young children with ASC and those that are non-verbal. An emotionally robust person, with a proven track record of implementing strategies to support behaviours that may challenge and language development.

What’s great about this job: This is a wonderful opportunity to support the whole family and grow a trusting and long-lasting bond with Frederick to continue his ongoing development.
