The below job description outlines the position of: Group Technical Manager

Typically, This Person Will

Take full responsibility for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical performance of a fleet of offshore support vessels. This includes oversight of maintenance, compliance, resource allocation, and budget control, as well as leading a team of technical professionals and working closely with cross-functional departments to ensure high standards of operational readiness and safety.

Duties And Responsibilities Of The Group Technical Manager

  • Lead the technical department to ensure reliable vessel performance and full compliance with SOLAS, IMO, Class, and Flag State requirements
  • Manage daily operations, team performance, and resource availability across the technical team
  • Liaise with classification societies, flag authorities, and port state control as required
  • Support Superintendents to maintain vessels to high standards, in class, within budget, and with optimal uptime
  • Monitor and support engineering performance onboard, taking corrective action when required
  • Conduct regular ship visits and attend project meetings to monitor vessel status and crew needs
  • Review budgets, spending, and purchasing systems to ensure cost efficiency and accurate forecasting
  • Ensure effective close-out of audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Drive workflow improvements and support system development across technical and operational processes
  • Actively promote a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Provide out-of-hours and emergency support as required
  • Participate in the Emergency Response Team and senior management discussions as needed

Qualifications And Requirements For The Group Technical Manager

  • Strong leadership background in technical/engineering management within offshore or marine operations
  • Previous experience managing offshore support vessels or similar fleet operations
  • Preferably qualified to Chief Engineer Unlimited / 2nd Engineer (or equivalent marine engineering certification)
  • Excellent working knowledge of Planned Maintenance and procurement systems
  • Able to manage budgets, people, and projects with a strong commercial and safety-first mindset
  • Effective communicator with proven ability to build rapport across departments and with external stakeholders
  • Strong time management, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills
