Group Senior Tax Accountant

Large Utilities Group

Location: Cambridgeshire - Office attendance required only once every 2 weeksTax team of 3 - This role reports into group tax manager and whilst does not have direct management responsibility will review work of tax accountant.

This role is pivotal in managing the corporation tax affairs of the group and supporting the Group Tax Manager. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with corporate tax legislation, oversee external reporting of the group's tax position, minimise UK tax liability, and forecast future tax liabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Group Compliance (30%)Prepare and agree tax computation timetable and work schedules for Tax accountant to ensure all computations are submitted within HMRC statutory limitsEnsure timetable compliance and statutory deadlines are metReply to all HMRC correspondence on corporate tax mattersNegotiate with HMRC to ensure agreement of tax computationsImplement new tax compliance tools and proceduresExternal Group Reporting (30%)Agree the half year and year-end tax charge with auditors for both the group and individual companiesMonitor and record the balance sheet position for every UK company in the groupArrange payments to HMRC and between group companiesEnsure that the group completes SAO returns and is compliant in tax disclosuresPrepare annual Pillar 2 and Country by Country reportsGroup Tax Minimisation (20%)Ensure all claims and elections are submitted to minimise tax liabilitiesReview all computations prepared by the tax accountant for potential tax reduction, prior to submissionAdvise on capital allowances, to identify areas that can be maximised and implement procedures to do soInvestigate, assess and recommend tax planning opportunitiesInvestigate and assess the tax efficiency of mergers and acquisitionsForecasting Future Tax Liabilities (20%)Forecast the tax liabilities for the whole group for inclusion in Board reportsReconcile tax charges and payments in Shareholder Model and Regulatory model to Group tax ModelUndertake a review of the Group Tax ModelsManage the unknowns that surface both during the year and at year-end to ensure that targets set by the Board are achieved

Essential Requirements

Chartered Tax Adviser qualification or relevant industry experienceDemonstrable experience and knowledge of Corporate TaxStrong knowledge of finance systems and spreadsheet/database skillsAnalytical ability to handle and interpret financial data with attention to detailExcellent interpersonal and presentation skillsAbility to work independently and prioritise workload
