About the department:

The Strategy and Corporate Development Team are responsible for all aspects of Group business strategy, mergers, acquisitions and corporate disposals. The team supports strategic initiatives and works to identify and deliver new opportunities in line with group strategy.

We have an opportunity to join us in London within an expanding team of Strategy Analysts in a critical area of our business. In this role you will help to shape the strategy of the global business and work directly with key decision makers and teams across the organisation.

About the role:

The Group Strategy Analyst will report to the Chief Strategy Officer. The Analyst will be responsible for providing market analysis and helping to shape strategic insights as part of the group strategy team. These insights will help to develop and deliver on the group strategy. This will include identifying gaps in the market which Aberdeen is well placed to fill and assisting in capitalising on opportunities which have not been highlighted for existing products or geographies. The role will be Global in remit and cover all three of Aberdeen’s strategic businesses – Investments, ii and Adviser.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake detailed market and gap analysis

  • Research industry trends and competitor movements, including maintaining a broad knowledge of developments within the asset management sector and the closed end fund sector in the UK and overseas

  • Prepare and build detailed financial modelling and analysis

  • Prepare and communicate strategic presentations and submissions to senior stakeholders

  • Assist with team market intelligence collation and cross team communications

  • Manage smaller projects independently, including developing projects plans, allocation of resources and project managing the transaction

  • Assist with the execution of strategic and competitive intelligence projects by developing project plans and collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Maintain (through the appropriate level of CPD) suitable knowledge and skills relating to systems and processes to be able to fulfil role to high standards

  • Support ad hoc projects as required

About the candidate:

  • Experience of working in Strategy/ developing strategic materials for senior stakeholders

  • Experience in either a top tier Investment Bank/ Investment Manager/ Management Consultancy or similar

  • Strong ability to read, interpret and analyse financial/ accounting/ market information

  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects and deliver to schedule

  • Familiarity and strong interest with investment management and the regulatory environment, competitive landscape, investment processes, instrument characteristics, etc.

  • Educated to degree level, further qualifications e.g. MBA/ CFA/ CIMA/ ACCA of additional interest but not required

  • Relationship building & networking – The ability to network effectively, both internally and externally, to be able to source ideas and opportunities and deliver results

  • Planning – Is able to work under pressure and comfortable working to tight deadlines; Strong project management skills

  • Analytical skills – Accurate financial modelling and proven analytical skills

  • Professionalism & Integrity – Is open and honest in all communications and presents Strategic analysis in the best possible manner. The ability to maintain absolute confidentiality around all corporate work

  • Strong MS skills – Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (largely xls and ppt) with ability to produce reports, presentations and other outputs to a high standard
