Group Manager (B) – Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service

Job Information

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced candidates at competent Station Manager levels, as well as inviting applications from existing Group Managers across the fire sector.

We are preparing for Group Manager vacancies within the service. Current roles involve leading departments such as Fire Safety, Technical Services, Training Assurance and Safety (TAS), and Community Risk and Response (CRR).

Northumberland, the northernmost county of England, borders Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and the Scottish Borders. It features a 103 km North Sea coastline, rural natural beauty, rich history, and a population of over 300,000 residents. The county covers over 5,000 sq. km, making it one of the largest in England. Northumberland County Council seeks to appoint a key post within Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.

The post holder will be part of the senior management team, supporting the delivery of ambitious plans to realize the vision of being a “land of great opportunities”. They will help deliver a comprehensive improvement programme across all service areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the aspirations of both the County Council and the Fire and Rescue Service by fostering integration within the County Council and enhancing community offerings.
  • Leading continuous improvement strategies and supporting a positive, innovative organizational culture.
  • Demonstrating exceptional leadership aligned with the ‘Leading the Function’ elements of the NFCC Leadership Framework.
  • Driving change in a complex and evolving environment.
  • Exhibiting excellent communication skills and engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing and leading operational incidents as Incident Commander or in other incident command roles, following EFSM2 standards and local procedures.
  • Providing emergency response across Northumberland, conditioned to our Flexi Duty Officer Rota, with discussions possible regarding base location for candidates outside Northumberland.
