Job summary

Douglas Scott Ltd in Manchester seeks a Group Legal Counsel – Energy & Infrastructure to join the in-house team. The role offers hybrid working and exposure to a broad commercial practice within a growing organisation.

You will advise on complex contracts, negotiate high-value agreements, and collaborate with senior leaders to drive strategic initiatives, digital transformation and operational improvements while managing risk.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years PQE with strong commercial contracts experience.
• Excellent commercial judgement and risk awareness.
• Experience supporting Energy, Utilities, Infrastructure is desirable.

• Confidence advising senior executives and influencing commercial decisions.

Group Legal Counsel – Energy & Infrastructure

Location: Manchester (Hybrid)

Salary: £80,000–£95,000

An exciting opportunity for a commercial lawyer to join the in-house legal team of an organisation undergoing significant transformation and growth.

This is a broad and commercially focused role offering exposure to complex legal matters across a diverse business. Working closely with the Head of Legal, you will partner with senior leaders to provide pragmatic legal advice, negotiate high-value commercial agreements and play a key role in supporting strategic initiatives, digital transformation and operational improvement.

The position would suit a commercially minded solicitor who enjoys working closely with stakeholders, influencing decision‑making and acting as a trusted business partner in a fast‑paced environment

You will advise on a wide range of commercial legal matters, taking ownership of complex contractual arrangements while helping the business manage legal risk and achieve its commercial objectives.

About You

Ideally we are seeking a minimum of 4 years PQE with strong commercial contracts experience gained either in‑house or in private practice. You will be confident working independently, managing competing priorities and building effective relationships across all levels of a business.

You should be able to demonstrate:

• Strong experience drafting, negotiating and advising on a broad range of commercial contracts
• Excellent commercial judgement and a pragmatic approach to legal risk.
• Experience supporting Energy, Utilities, Infrastructure is desirable
• Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Confidence advising senior executives and influencing commercial decisions.
• A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with excellent organisational skills.
• The ability to work across a broad range of legal matters and quickly develop knowledge in new areas where required.
