Job summary

Nu Quantum is seeking an experienced Optics Group Lead to drive the development of optical systems for qubit photon interfaces and quantum networking testbeds. You will lead the Testbed Optics group, guiding design, build, optimisation of complex optical experiments and system platforms.

Work closely with nanofabrication, electronics, software, and AMO physicists to deliver high-quality optical subsystems. The role requires hands-on experimental capability and the ability to mentor, coordinate,

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent in quantum optics or closely related field.
Demonstrated technical leadership in optics and guiding design/experiments.
Lab implementation from optical simulation to hardware.
Strong understanding of atomic/quantum physics for system needs.
Experience mentoring and coordinating a technical team.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for the Testbed Optics group and set direction for optical experiments and system builds.
Own optical system architecture including free-space and fibre optics, laser systems, and interferometry.
Lead design reviews, enforce robust and reproducible approaches, guide long-term development.
Mentor team members and develop deeper capabilities in quantum optics.
Establish best practices for optical design, automation, and documentation.
