Join our Group Financial Reporting Team – Maternity Cover (Qualified Accountant, 15-18 months FTC)

Are you a qualified accountant (1-5 years post-qualified) looking to gain valuable experience in group reporting within a purpose-led organisation? We’re seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented finance professional to join our Group Finance team on a fixed-term basis. This is a great opportunity to work at the heart of a successful and growing Building Society, contributing to key financial reporting and gaining exposure to both internal and external stakeholders.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job. We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and are a mutual organisation without shareholders, owned by our members. Our colleagues say Skipton is a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing new ideas to keep customers at the heart of what we do. Whatever your background and goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

You will join a team of 8 within Group Finance, responsible for delivering the Group’s Annual Report and Accounts and the Half Yearly Financial Statements. We work collaboratively to ensure the integrity of group financial information, focusing on quality, controls, and continuous improvement. We pride ourselves on supporting each other and creating an inclusive, supportive environment where technical excellence and professional growth go hand-in-hand.

What Will You Be Doing?
  • Leading the month-end group consolidation process, including posting consolidation adjustments, and reviewing submissions from subsidiaries.
  • Operating and enhancing the group consolidation controls framework and associated procedures.
  • Liaising with subsidiaries to support accurate reporting and provide insight into the group financial results.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders across the wider finance function.
  • Supporting the delivery of the Group’s statutory reporting obligations, including external audit coordination.
  • Assisting in the implementation and refinement of reporting processes within Workday, our financial systems platform.
What Do We Need From You?
  • A qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) ideally with 1-5 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, ideally within a group or multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with Workday or similar finance systems is desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams and with auditors.
  • A willingness to learn, contribute ideas, and take ownership of key deliverables.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical and professional skills in a supportive, collaborative team, while gaining valuable experience in the financial services sector.

What’s In It For You?

Skipton values work/life balance and supports hybrid and flexible working. Our newly refurbished head office provides a vibrant, collaborative workspace. Benefits include:

  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • 25 days of annual leave + bank holidays + an additional day per year of service up to 30 days
  • Holiday trading scheme to buy/sell additional leave
  • Matching employer pension contributions (up to 10%)
  • Colleague mortgage scheme (conditions apply)
  • Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric cars
  • Training and development programs
  • Private medical insurance
  • 3 paid volunteering days per year
  • Diverse colleague networks including Carers and Pride Alliance
  • Health and wellbeing benefits such as cycle to work and gym discounts
