Job summary

Skipton Building Society is recruiting a Senior Specialist to join the Group Financial Planning and Analysis team. You will turn complex data into clear insights that drive business performance and strategy.

You will work with a small team at the heart of the business to optimise member and business value. The role focuses on preparing planning outputs, stress testing, and forecasting, with collaboration across Finance and other functions.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills to interpret complex accounting matters.
  • Excellent planning, analytical and modelling skills.
  • Self-starter to deliver excellent outcomes.
  • Subject matter expert in FP&A and accounting knowledge.
  • Translate operational plans into financial outcomes.
  • Knowledge of QRM, Databricks and Power BI advantageous.
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Head of Group Financial Planning and Analysis in preparing and producing key planning and stress testing outputs.
  • Contribute to bottom-up modelling of stress testing/forecasting and regulatory requirements.
  • Consolidate Group forecasts and the 5-year Corporate Plan.
  • Identify balance sheet or strategic vulnerabilities and propose improvements.
  • Deliver governance documentation for outputs.

Hours: 35 hours. Hybrid working. Minimum expectation of 3 days per week at our Head Office in Skipton.

Salary: £55,000 Per Annum

Job introduction

We are recruiting for a Senior Specialist to join the Group Financial Planning and Analysis team. If you enjoy a developing and delivering insight and thereby drive business performance and strategy then this may be the role for you.

With a keen eye for detail, being skilled at understanding complex information and succinctly communicating its meaning, you'll be part of a small team at the heart of the business and optimising member and business value.

The team you will be joining, Group Financial Planning and Analysis within Group Financial Performance is a team of 9 colleagues working with financial business partners, business lines and executive teams.

Our core role is to understand, report and forecast business performance, being able to explain with insight the consequences of decisions and identifying and recommending corrective actions to achieve strategic goals or mitigate financial risks.

What You'll Do

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • From a Skipton Building Society perspective, support the Head of Group Financial Planning and Analysis and the team in preparing and producing the Society's key planning and stress testing outputs, using an agile and collaborative approach.
  • Support the production of the bottom-up modelling (QRM) of the Society's stress testing / forecasting and regulatory requirements, liaising with the Homes and Money Finance team to agree key business assumptions and working closely with key stakeholders across Finance and the wider Society and Group.
  • Assist in the consolidation of Group forecasts and the 5-year Corporate Plan.
  • Through the stress testing / forecasting work identify any balance sheet or strategic vulnerabilities and provide potential improvements / solutions.
  • Deliver supporting documentation used for governance of outputs.
What You’ll Need

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly interpret and concisely explain the impact on the Society of complex accounting and technical matters.
  • Excellent planning, analytical and modelling skills, enabling complex models to be understood and appropriately challenged.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, self-starter to deliver excellent outcomes and service.
  • Strong knowledge of Financial Planning and Analysis and technical accounting knowledge with the desire and ability to be the subject matter expert in these areas.
  • Good commercial understanding and ability to translate operational plans into financial outcomes.
  • Experience of planning and organising own work to ensure a focus on key priorities and achievement of deadlines.
  • Knowledge of QRM, Databricks and/or Power BI would be advantageous.
  • Ideally attained a professional accounting qualification e.g. ACCA/CIMA/ACA
