Job description

We are partnering, on an exclusive basis, with a successful Scottish business operating across international markets, supplying products to leading customers throughout the UK and beyond. Headquartered in Angus, this organisation has a multi-entity structure, a strong reputation within its sector and ambitious plans for future growth into new territories. Alongside this, the finance function is continuing to evolve, with a focus on strengthening reporting, controls and decision support.

This is a commercially focused organisation where finance plays a key role in supporting decision-making, maintaining strong financial governance and providing clear insight to operational and commercial stakeholders. The Group Financial Controller will work closely with the Group Finance Director and senior leadership team, helping ensure the business continues to operate with robust financial control.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Group Finance Director, the Group Financial Controller will take ownership of financial control, reporting and governance across the business and its associated entities. This is a broad role combining technical accounting, team leadership, business partnering and process improvement.

You’ll lead the delivery of accurate monthly and annual reporting, oversee audit activity and ensure strong balance sheet control, while providing financial insight that supports informed decision-making across the organisation. The role will also play an important part in developing finance processes, strengthening controls and supporting ongoing systems and reporting improvements.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading financial reporting, accounting operations and group reporting activities
  • Ensuring timely delivery of monthly management accounts, forecasts, budgets and KPIs
  • Overseeing balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining robust financial controls
  • Managing the annual audit process and coordinating relationships with external auditors
  • Owning group cash flow forecasting and providing visibility of future funding requirements
  • Supporting treasury activities, including foreign exchange management and banking relationships
  • Reviewing and resolving intercompany accounting matters across the group
  • Partnering with operational, commercial and senior stakeholders to provide insight and challenge
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting capability
  • Leading, coaching and developing members of the finance team
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of a high-performing finance function.
The Candidate

We are seeking a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong financial control and reporting experience gained within a commercial environment. You will bring a combination of technical accounting expertise, people leadership capability and the ability to build effective relationships across a business.

We’re particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Strong financial accounting, management reporting and balance sheet control experience
  • A track record of leading month-end processes and maintaining high standards of financial governance
  • Experience managing and developing finance team members
  • Knowledge of cash flow forecasting, treasury activities and intercompany accounting
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate financial information clearly
  • A high level of Excel capability and confidence working with large data sets
  • Experience of ERP systems and finance reporting tools
  • A practical, organised and accountable approach to delivering results
  • The ability to balance recurring finance responsibilities with improvement and project activity.

Experience within a multi-entity, internationally operating business would be highly advantageous.
