Job summary

Human Appeal is seeking a Group Financial Controller to lead financial control, reporting, and governance across the Group, ensuring timely, accurate information and a robust control environment. You will oversee consolidation, audit liaison, budgeting, and strategic financial planning, partnering with leaders to drive growth and sustainability.

The role requires 7+ years PQE, ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CA/CPA, and extensive experience in large, complex organisations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CA/CPA) with 7+ years PQE.
  • Experience in financial control, group reporting, consolidation, and financial management.
  • Senior finance leadership experience (Group Controller/Head of Finance).
  • Experience managing external audits and regulatory reporting.
  • Proven improvements to financial processes, controls and reporting frameworks.
  • Experience leading high-performing finance teams.
  • Advanced Excel skills with data analysis and modelling.
  • ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, NetSuite).
  • MI and Board-level reporting experience; strong English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Group's financial reporting process (monthly, quarterly, annual).
  • Oversee consolidation across all Group entities and ensure standards compliance.
  • Develop and maintain financial controls, policies and governance.
  • Ensure statutory, tax, audit, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Oversee the external audit process and address findings.
  • Provide financial insights to support executive decision-making.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning.
  • Monitor performance, identify risks and opportunities, recommend actions.
  • Manage cash flow, balance sheet and working capital.
  • Drive improvements in processes, systems and reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with leaders to support performance and strategic objectives.
  • Ensure data integrity and quality of financial information.
  • Lead, develop and coach the finance team.
  • Support M&A, restructures and due diligence activities.

Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Group Financial Controller position within the Finance department based at Cheadle, Manchester or Birmingham. The Group Financial Controller will lead and oversee the Group's financial control, reporting, and governance activities, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial information, maintaining a robust control environment, and providing strategic financial insight to support effective decision‑making, business performance, and sustainable growth across the organisation.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the Group financial reporting process, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the consolidation of financial results across all Group entities and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective financial controls, policies, and governance frameworks across the Group.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, audit, and regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions in which the Group operates.
  • Oversee the annual external audit process and coordinate the resolution of audit findings and recommendations.
  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support executive decision‑making and business strategy.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long‑term financial planning processes.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend corrective actions where required.
  • Manage Group cash flow, balance sheet integrity, and working capital performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes, controls, systems, and reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with operational and commercial leaders to support business performance and strategic objectives.
  • Ensure the integrity, security, and quality of financial data and management information.
  • Lead, develop, and coach the finance team, fostering a high‑performance culture and building organisational capability.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, restructures, and other corporate transactions through financial due diligence and integration activities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Global Director of Finance on financial governance, risk management, and business performance matters.

NB: Employee duties are not limited only to the above‑mentioned responsibilities; they may perform other duties as assigned

Candidate essential criteria
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, CPA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification), with 7+ years PQE.
  • Significant experience in financial control, group reporting, consolidation, and financial management within a complex organisation.
  • Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role, preferably within a Group Controller, Financial Controller, or Head of Finance position.
  • Experience managing external audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in improving financial processes, controls, and reporting frameworks.
  • Experience leading and developing high‑performing finance teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, financial modelling, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar financial management systems.
  • Proficiency in financial consolidation and reporting software.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning tools.
  • Strong data analysis and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to extract, analyse, and interpret financial and operational data from multiple systems.
  • Experience producing management information (MI) and Board‑level reports.
  • Strong English is required
