Job description

Group Financial Compliance Accountant, West Dunbartonshire Council

This role reports to the Head of Finance for Group Accounting and Compliance, supporting 56 subsidiaries globally, including 14 in the UK. Your primary responsibility is to ensure each subsidiary is correctly registered with the appropriate authorities and complies with legal, banking, and financial regulations.

You will set up entities, establish tax structures, ensure adherence to accounting policies, manage share allocations, and oversee VAT registration and company secretary duties for these subsidiaries.

The role offers insight into corporate legal structures, support for M&A activities, and integration of new contracts and acquisitions. You will also test financial controls to ensure robust governance and compliance.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Chartered Accountant qualified through ICAS, ICAEW, or CAI, trained in the UK.
  • Background in audit, preferably with exposure to large, complex audits, ideally from Big 4 or mid-tier firms.
  • Experience in testing controls, preparing detailed reports, and implementing improvements.
  • Knowledge of accounting policies, IFRS standards, and compliance standards such as SOC 2.
  • Strong attention to detail, professional curiosity, and a desire to learn about corporate finance structures.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the Group authorization instructions matrix, conduct annual reviews, and coordinate Agresso Controls meetings.
  2. Open new bank accounts and review finance, purchasing, and AP processes annually.
  3. Update and streamline finance documentation, managing change effectively.
  4. Establish new companies as needed, including registration, VAT, bank accounts, and checklists.
  5. Assist in managing and reporting the Group's working capital, including cashflows, inventory, and debtors.
