Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is recruiting Group Exercise Instructors to cover sessions at Selby and Tadcaster Leisure Centres and Wellness Hubs. This zero-hour role involves flexible class cover across sites, with a salary package up to £31.35 per hour including a market supplement.

We seek energetic, inclusive instructors who can engage participants, adapt to varying abilities, and promote physical activity for health and wellbeing. DBS check is required; enhanced DBS cost covered by the council.

Qualifications

• Hold the relevant fitness qualification (or be able to achieve it prior to employment) to ensure safe and effective practice and undertake ongoing CPD training in line with qualification standards and organisational protocols
• Be able to give clear, accurate, and assertive instructions verbally and through the correct use of signals to customers and other members of the team

Responsibilities

• Lead high-quality group exercise sessions across different forms (e.g., Spin, Yoga)
• Tailor sessions to suit newcomers and regular attendees and create an inclusive, welcoming environment
• Plan classes, review and improve your sessions, and promote healthy lifestyle habits

We are looking for enthusiastic Group Exercise Instructors to provide classes at both our Tadcaster and Selby Leisure and Wellbeing Hubs.

This role is a zero hour contract, you will be used as class cover options across both Selby and Tadcaster Leisure Centre and Wellness Hubs.+

The basic salary for this post is £17.85 to £19.81 per hour, plus a market supplement of £11.54 per hour, providing an hourly salary package of up to £31.35 per hour.

We are looking to grow our Group Exercise programme within the local communities at both our Tadcaster and Selby Leisure Centres. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivating instructors who can encourage and inspire participants through fun, energetic, and inclusive classes across a range of different forms from Spin to Yoga.

You will deliver high-quality, engaging sessions tailored to suit both newcomers and long-time attendees, creating a welcoming environment where individuals of all abilities can enjoy themselves, build confidence, and stay active.

What You Can Bring:

The most important quality you can bring is passion and drive to help us deliver our fantastic group exercise programme to our wide range of customers. You need the ability to work effectively as part of a team and a good understanding of customer care.However, you would also need to show that you:

• Hold the relevant fitness qualification (or be able to achieve it prior to employment) to ensure safe and effective practice and undertake ongoing CPD training in line with qualification standards and organisational protocols
• Be able to give clear, accurate, and assertive instructions verbally and through the correct use of signals to customers and other members of the team

Depending on which group exercise you are interested in leading, you will also bring:

• The ability to plan classes, tailored to clients’ needs
• Review and consistently improve your sessions, and adapt if required
• Knowledge of lifestyle management and the ability to encourage healthy habits in others
• Understand the benefits of physical activity to health and wellbeing, and be able to promote it!

An Enhanced DBS is required should you wish to lead a junior group fitness activity, the cost of which will be covered by North Yorkshire Council.
