Job description

The Data Engineering Lead implements the strategy for Data Engineering aligned to the Data Strategy in ODEONCinemas Group (OCG), overseeing activities required in the delivery and maintenance of quality data to support our Data Analyst communities. This includes the development, operation, and maintenance of data pipelines to extract, load, and transform data sources from both internal and external providers. The role is also responsible for ensuring data quality is monitored and maintained effectively. Additionally, the role manages the technical demand pipeline for new data feeds and products and coordinates a data engineering plan with the team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee activities to deliver and maintain Data Products supporting Data Analyst communities across OCG.
  • Develop, operate, and maintain data pipelines for data extraction, loading, and transformation from various sources.
  • Establish standard technology patterns and frameworks for data ingestion and transformation with OCG IT Architecture.
  • Drive standardization, simplification, and efficiency in Data Engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Data and Analytics to prioritize Data Engineering demand.
  • Own the operating model to ensure quality data delivery and communicate effectively during incidents.
  • Manage a central team of Data Engineers and coordinate with embedded teams.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the data engineering team.
  • Share technical knowledge and thought leadership across Data and Analytics teams.
  • Embed processes, tools, and skills to support business growth and data engineering maturity.
  • Consult with business Data Analyst teams on onboarding new data sources and building Data Products.
  • Establish and maintain a Data Catalogue for data discovery, governance, and lineage.
  • Define metrics for data quality and develop approaches to maintain it at desired levels.
  • Report progress and issues to senior stakeholders regularly.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with all functions, especially data and analytics teams.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience leading Data Engineering activities across multiple data products and pipelines.
  • Experience in team leadership and managing demand during technological change is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of monitoring, measuring, and maintaining data quality, including automated testing approaches.
  • Strong experience with modern analytics and big data architectures in Azure, including Data Lake, Databricks, Data Factory, and Power BI.
  • Experience with various data ingestion methods and delivering solutions with structured and unstructured data.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Spark, preferably on Databricks.
  • Operational management of data pipelines, troubleshooting, and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience with version control and CI/CD, ideally with git and Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to work in Agile environments delivering regular updates.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement at all levels.
