Group Commercial Legal Counsel
Hybrid Working – 3 Days in Office, 2 Days from Home
4+ Years PQE Required
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced Group Commercial Legal Counsel to join a growing in-house legal team at a prominent UK organisation. This role offers the chance to provide expert legal advice across a wide range of commercial contracts and business functions, working closely with multiple teams to support the organisation’s growth and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Contracts: Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including NDAs, standard terms of business, bespoke agreements, consumer contracts, manufacturing agreements, and complex IT contracts (such as SaaS and AI-based agreements).
Legal Advice: Provide clear, commercially-focused legal advice to internal teams, helping to mitigate risks and make informed business decisions.
Procurement Support: Work alongside the Procurement Team, offering legal support from the RFP stage through to advising on contract terms, management, and termination.
Consumer Law: Collaborate with the Customer Operations team, providing expert legal advice on consumer law to ensure compliance and a customer-centric approach.
Litigation Management: Oversee a caseload of consumer small claims, ensuring each matter is handled efficiently and commercially, working closely with customer service teams for positive outcomes.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the organisation remains compliant with evolving regulatory requirements, staying ahead of changes that could impact business operations.
Policies & Processes: Lead the drafting and implementation of new policies and processes, ensuring smooth adoption across the business.
Precedent Management: Manage the organisation's bank of commercial legal precedents, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all departments.
Training & Coaching: Deliver training to key stakeholders, breaking down complex legal matters into clear, actionable guidance.
Emerging Risks & Trends: Stay informed of emerging legal risks and industry trends, proactively advising the business and contributing to future strategy development.
Ideal Candidate:
Experience: At least 4 years’ PQE or relevant pre-qualification experience in commercial contracts.
Financial Services: Experience in financial services is desirable.
IT Contracts: Proven experience in negotiating large-scale IT contracts, particularly SaaS agreements and AI technology-related contracts.
Data Protection: Strong knowledge of data protection legislation, ensuring compliance and risk management.
Commercial Mindset: A commercially-focused professional capable of influencing decisions and standing by your legal advice.
Fast-Paced Environment: Comfortable managing multiple priorities and working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Collaboration: Strong ability to build relationships across the organisation, adapting communication to diverse audiences.
IT Skills: Competent in using IT systems and technology to streamline work processes.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to simplify complex legal issues for non-legal stakeholders.
Organisational Skills: Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise urgent matters effectively.
Commercial Awareness: Strong commercial acumen, with experience advising internal stakeholders. Previous in-house experience is a plus but not essential.
Legal Trends: An interest in trends within the legal industry, particularly around contract management technology and AI.
Growth Mindset: A passion for continuous learning, growth, and sharing knowledge within the team and the broader organisation.
