Job summary

Morgan McKinley Northern Home Counties is partnering with an established manufacturing business to recruit a Group Assistant Accountant to join its Group Finance team. This role offers exposure to multi-entity accounting, month-end processes and robust reconciliations within a growing operation.

You will support month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany activity, developing your technical accounting knowledge and progressing within a centralised finance function.

Qualifications

• AAT qualification (essential).
• Double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
• Experience posting journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Good balance sheet reconciliation experience.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Good Excel skills and confidence using finance systems.
• Ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Proactive attitude and genuine desire to develop professionally.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journals, accruals and prepayments during month-end.
• Support month-end close and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
• Assist with management accounts schedules and reconciliations.
• Investigate accounting queries and discrepancies.
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
• Support cash postings, daily cash reporting and cash-flow model.
• Coordinate intercompany reconciliations and provide Group reporting support.
• Assist with external audit preparation and process improvements, including NetSuite enhancements.

Morgan McKinley Northern Home Counties are partnering with an established and growing manufacturing business to recruit a Group Assistant Accountant to join its Group Finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified finance professional looking to develop their career within a multi-entity business, gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting activities and Group financial reporting.

Reporting to the Group Head of Financial Reporting, you will play an important role in supporting the month-end reporting process, maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring robust reconciliations across multiple Group entities.

Working as part of a centralised Group Finance function, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical accounting knowledge, develop your experience and take on increasing responsibility within a growing business.

The Role

Month-End & Management Accounts

• Prepare and post journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Support the month-end close process and ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
• Assist with the preparation of management account schedules.
• Investigate accounting queries and discrepancies.

Balance Sheet Reconciliations

• Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
• Ensure reconciliations are accurate, supported and completed within agreed deadlines.

Cashbook & Cash Reporting

• Maintain accurate bank postings and cashbook records.
• Assist with daily cash reporting and cash monitoring.
• Support the maintenance of the Group cash-flow model.
• Investigate and resolve bank and cashbook discrepancies.

Group Accounting & Intercompany

• Support intercompany reconciliations across multiple Group entities.
• Identify and investigate intercompany differences.
• Provide supporting information for Group reporting and consolidation.
• Work flexibly across different entities, ledgers and finance processes.

Audit & Process Improvement

• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external audit.
• Respond to routine audit queries.
• Maintain accurate financial records and audit trails.
• Support improvements and standardisation of finance processes.
• Assist with improvements to processes within NetSuite and other finance systems.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• AAT qualification (essential).
• A sound understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
• Experience preparing and posting journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Good balance sheet reconciliation experience.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Good Excel skills and confidence using finance systems.
• The ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• A proactive attitude and genuine desire to develop professionally.

It would also be advantageous if you have:

• Experience within a Group Finance or multi-entity environment.
• Exposure to management accounts and month-end reporting.
• Experience with intercompany reconciliations.
• Cashbook or cash reporting experience.
• Working knowledge of NetSuite.
• Studying towards CIMA or ACCA.
• Experience within manufacturing or another growing, acquisitive business.
