Job summary

Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Caerphilly for a Group Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will provide support to the Revenue, Capital and Treasury services, leading a team and ensuring statutory accounts, financial reporting and treasury functions are delivered accurately, efficiently and within deadlines.

Qualifications

• Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent.
• Extensive knowledge of local government accounting, statutory accounts, CIPFA Code of Practice, Prudential Code, Treasury Management Code, and taxation.
• Proven management experience leading a finance team and meeting statutory deadlines.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with ability to advise senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the corporate accounts function, coordinating annual closure of accounts, preparation of the Statement of Accounts, and liaison with external auditors.
• Oversee revenue and capital accounting, including budget prep, monitoring, and capital programme reporting.
• Manage Treasury Management activities, including borrowing, investments and banking arrangements.
• Lead and develop a finance team, allocating workloads and managing performance to meet deadlines.
