Job summary

MadiganGill are seeking an experienced Groundworker to join a college in Cinderford, GL14, to teach and mentor Groundworks apprentices. This role offers the chance to move from site work into training and mentoring without requiring a teaching qualification initially. We will support obtaining the relevant FE teaching qualification and arrange DBS checks.

Location: Cinderford, GL14. Rate and hours negotiable; permanent preferred, with option for contract.

Qualifications

• Strong Groundworks background and genuine site experience.
• Good knowledge of Groundworks, construction methods and site practices.
• Experience with drainage, foundations, concreting, excavation, levels and general Groundworks.
• Ability to pass knowledge to young people.

Responsibilities

• Teach and mentor Groundworks apprentices.
• Deliver classroom-based and practical Groundworks training.
• Share experience from construction sites to apprentices.
• Deliver a structured scheme of work.
• Explain how classroom theory applies to real site situations.
• Support practical training and development.
• Teach safe working practices and health & safety.
• Help apprentices develop Groundworks skills and understanding.
• Manage and engage groups of young apprentices.
• Prepare apprentices for careers in Groundworks and construction.

Groundworks Tutor / Apprenticeship Tutor

MadiganGill are looking for an experienced Groundworker to join a college in Cinderford, GL14, helping to teach and mentor Groundworks apprentices.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Groundworker who wants to move away from full-time site work and pass their knowledge, skills and experience on to the next generation.

You do not need a teaching qualification to apply. We will support the successful candidate through the relevant qualification to teach in Further Education, and we will arrange the required DBS checks.

The Role:

• Teaching and mentoring Groundworks apprentices
• Delivering both classroom-based and practical Groundworks training
• Sharing your experience and knowledge gained from working on construction sites
• Delivering a structured scheme of work
• Teaching apprentices how classroom theory applies to real site situations
• Supporting practical training and development
• Teaching safe working practices and construction health & safety
• Helping apprentices develop their Groundworks skills and understanding
• Managing and engaging with groups of young apprentices
• Preparing apprentices for a career in the Groundworks and construction industry

What We're Looking For:

• Strong Groundworks background and genuine site experience
• Good knowledge of Groundworks, construction methods and site practices
• Experience with areas such as drainage, foundations, concreting, excavation, levels and general Groundworks
• Someone who can confidently pass their knowledge and experience on to young people
• Good communication and people skills
• Patient, approachable and confident personality
• Ability to deliver a structured scheme of work
• Previous teaching, training, mentoring or supervisory experience would be an advantage
• Teaching qualifications are desirable but not essential

Groundworks experience is more important than teaching experience. We are looking for someone who has the practical knowledge and personality to teach apprentices what working in the real construction industry is actually like.
