Job summary

Building Careers UK is representing a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to lead the commercial delivery on residential groundworks projects around the North West.

You will manage procurement to final accounts, prepare valuations, CVRs, and cash flow analyses, and work with clients, developers, and subcontractors to maximise profitability.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager.
• Strong background in residential groundworks and civil engineering.
• Experience with major house builders in the North West.
• Excellent cost control, CVRs, valuations, and final accounts.
• Solid knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts.

Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial delivery of multiple residential groundworks and civil engineering projects
• Overseeing projects from procurement through to final account
• Preparing valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
• Producing CVRs, cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow analysis
• Procuring and managing subcontractor packages
• Managing commercial risk and ensuring contractual compliance
• Working closely with operational teams to maximise project profitability
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, developers, and subcontractors
• Supporting Directors with commercial strategy and business performance

Location - Northwich

Salary/Package - £55,000 - £75,000 + Excellent Benefits Package

About the Company

Our client is a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor operating throughout the North West, delivering high-quality infrastructure and groundwork packages for some of the region's leading residential developers. Their expertise covers roads and sewers, foundations, drainage, reinforced concrete works, earthworks, retaining structures, plot works, and external infrastructure, with projects delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Built on long-standing client relationships, technical expertise, and a commitment to quality, the business continues to grow and is now seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to strengthen its commercial team.

The Role

• Managing the commercial delivery of multiple residential groundworks and civil engineering projects
• Overseeing projects from procurement through to final account
• Preparing valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
• Producing CVRs, cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow analysis
• Procuring and managing subcontractor packages
• Managing commercial risk and ensuring contractual compliance

The Ideal Candidate

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager
• Strong background within residential groundworks and civil engineering
• Experience working with major house builders across the North West
• Excellent understanding of cost control, CVRs, valuations, and final accounts
• Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Full UK Driving Licence
