Wigan & Leigh College is launching Groundwork courses from September 2026, and this is the job that gets it all started. You’ll teach at Level 2 and on apprenticeship programmes, covering practical and theoretical groundwork skills: excavation, drainage, concreting, kerbing, paving, setting out, and the health and safety standards that run through all of it.

This role involves shaping the curriculum with the Head of Department, developing schemes of learning, assessment and practical delivery,

Qualifications

• Extensive groundworks experience across drainage, foundations, concreting, paving, kerbing and reinstatement.
• Teaching qualification (Cert Ed or PGCE) or willingness to work towards one with support.
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent, with progression during probation.
• Experience teaching FE, apprenticeships or industry training.

Responsibilities

• Teach Groundwork Level 2 and apprenticeships; contribute to higher level delivery as needed.
• Develop the new Groundwork curriculum with the Head of Department and create schemes of learning.
• Plan and deliver lessons covering excavation, drainage, concreting, kerbing, paving and setting out.
• Keep teaching current with industry standards and employer expectations; assess and mark work.
• Support students' employability, health, safety and progression; act as Personal Tutor.
