Job summary

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (Championships) Limited (AELTC) invites applications for a Groundsperson to support year-round maintenance and presentation of grass courts across Wimbledon venues. You will work with a skilled team to uphold Championship standards, using modern turf management practices and safe operation of equipment.

The role requires flexibility, weekend/evening shifts during events and a commitment to sustainability and high workmanship.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Sports Turf Management.
• PA1 and PA6A certification, or the ability to obtain these qualifications within an agreed timeframe.
• Proven practical experience in the preparation and maintenance of grass tennis courts to competition standard.
• Knowledge of turfgrass performance, cultural practices and plant health management.
• Full UK Driving Licence (Category B).

Responsibilities

• Assist with the care, preparation and daily maintenance of grass courts across all venues.
• Apply granular and liquid fertilisers, soil conditioners and plant protection products in accordance with best practice and environmental guidelines.
• Carry out mowing, marking out and court preparation activities to Championship standards.
• Operate pedestrian, ride on and tractor mounted machinery safely and effectively.
• Support annual spring and autumn renovation programmes.
• Monitor and report turf performance, weeds, pests, diseases and disorders and assist in implementing appropriate control measures.
• Assist in the maintenance and preparation of clay courts, hard courts, covered courts, croquet lawns and ornamental areas across all venues.
• Maintain surrounding grounds, pathways, fencing lines and landscaped areas to ensure a clean, safe and professional appearance.
• Support the maintenance of car parks and other operational areas across the estate.
• Assist in the care, maintenance and safe operation of all equipment, tools and machinery.
• Help maintain benches, netting systems, court accessories, irrigation equipment and other infrastructure.
• Set up courts for play, including nets, covers, court cups, water supplies and associated equipment.
• Drive buggies and other authorised vehicles in accordance with site rules and safety procedures.
• Assist with the use of modern turf management technologies, monitoring systems and data collection tools to support decision making and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to the implementation of innovative maintenance practices that enhance surface performance, sustainability and resource efficiency.
• Maintain high standards of health & safety and security in the workplace and comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Promote environmentally responsible working practices and support the department's sustainability objectives.
• Take personal responsibility for maintaining a professional appearance and representing the AELTC in a positive manner at all times.
• Work flexibly across the Groundstaff and Horticultural services departments as required.
• Support operations across Wimbledon, Raynes Park and Roehampton venues.
• Build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders across all locations.

As a Groundsperson, you will support the year‑round maintenance, presentation and preparation of the AELTC's grass courts and other playing surfaces across all venues. Working as part of a skilled team, you will help deliver exceptional standards for Members, their guests and The Championships, while contributing to the continuous improvement of our facilities through modern turf management practices, technology and sustainable maintenance techniques.

What You Will Be Doing

Grass court maintenance

• Assist with the care, preparation and daily maintenance of grass courts across all venues.

What part your role will play in The Championships

The Groundstaff Department delivers year round maintenance and state of the art preparation for The Championships which sees around 3,500 hours of use during The Championships.

During The Championships period your role will help to support the AELTC’s goal of delivering the world’s premier tennis tournament and to support one of the world’s most prestigious tennis clubs.

Your role will help to provide support across all venues to include The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club Limited (Wimbledon), The All England Club Community Sports Ground (Raynes Park), The Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre (Roehampton) and surrounding areas.

The role is based on 40 hours per week and flexibility is required to meet the demands of the job and will include working evenings and weekends – a shift pattern will be required to cover events including additional hours, days, evenings and weekends.

The Groundstaff Department, based at The All England Club Community Sports Ground (Raynes Park) and The Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre (Roehampton), delivers year-round maintenance of hard courts, football pitches, rugby pitches and cricket facilities including the daily maintenance of ornamental, other grass areas and car parks and state of the art preparation for our Qualifying Competition and The Championships.
