Grounds Maintenance Team Member - Devizes - Wiltshire
The Role

The main purpose of this role is to provide an effective grounds maintenance service. The Grounds Maintenance Operative should have an understanding of garden maintenance and the machinery used to carry out grounds maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • General maintenance of areas, including cut and collect and cut and drop, using ride-on and pedestrian machinery.
  • Undertake horticultural operations such as hedge trimming, shrub bed maintenance, planting, strimming, blowing, hard surface maintenance, tree maintenance, chemical application, garden clearance, and general landscape works.
  • Removing litter, emptying bins, and clearing leaves.
  • Carry out Groundsman duties following best practices.
  • Ensure lower graded staff understand instructions and work as a team.
  • Utilise craft skills for site preparation and construction activities.
  • Operate ride-on and pedestrian mowers.
  • Use a range of tools and equipment, including power tools and light plant.
  • Drive company vehicles and tow trailers as required.
  • Assist the Chargehand in fulfilling contract requirements.
  • In the absence of the Chargehand, complete relevant paperwork and ensure timely submission.
  • Help ensure work is completed within deadlines and to quality standards.
  • Promote a professional attitude and pride in work.
  • Assist apprentices and fixed-term operatives and communicate with the Chargehand about maintenance tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and management.
  • Follow workforce discipline policies.
  • Wear the correct uniform and PPE at all times.
  • Input site visit data accurately into the Glendale Live 2.0 system.
  • Perform operations in compliance with Health and Safety procedures.
  • Be aware of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements and adhere to them.
  • Develop good working relationships with colleagues, clients, and customers.
  • Follow instructions regarding vehicle use and ensure equipment safety and maintenance.
  • Monitor and report vehicle and equipment conditions, especially in the absence of the Chargehand.
Health and Safety
  • Act in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and company policies.
  • Follow instructions from managers regarding health and safety.
  • Complete necessary induction and safety training before starting work.
  • Take responsibility for health and safety of yourself and others.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure equipment safety.
Machine Maintenance and Security
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are suitable and safe for use.
  • Report any machinery defects immediately.
  • Complete maintenance and defect sheets as required.
  • Secure machinery and equipment when not in use.
Qualifications and Personal Characteristics
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance and horticulture is desirable but training will be provided.
  • Experience with handheld machinery is desirable but training will be given.
  • Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Reliable, conscientious, proactive, eager to learn, and able to work independently.
  • Previous grounds maintenance and horticultural experience is preferred.
