The role is physically demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather conditions. A full UK driving licence is essential, as you'll be required to drive vehicles and operate ride-on equipment at various locations.

The hours will be confirmed at interview but will include participation in a weekend and bank holiday rota to cover safety checks at outdoor sites. You may also be required to work additional hours on rare occasions for large-scale events.

What We Offer
  • Full-time, 37 hours per week.
  • Friday finish at 1pm.
  • 31 days' holiday.
Key Duties
  • Mow, strim and cut back grounds at maintained sites in line with agreed grounds maintenance regimes.
  • Clear litter from maintained properties and other public areas.
  • Inspect play areas and pitches for safety and cleanliness and complete records of checks.
  • Carry out grounds and other maintenance works in the cemetery, including occasional liaison with funeral directors and families during interments.
  • Lock and unlock buildings and facilities as required, with responsibility for safeguarding keys and the security of property.
  • Carry out basic building maintenance tasks, including basic repairs and decorating.
  • Plant, maintain and water floral displays and hanging baskets.
  • Assist with the preparation of sports pitches and unlock and lock facilities for use by sports teams, often working alone as part of the weekend rota.
  • Identify and note areas of litter pollution within the town through visual inspection.
  • Report incidents of graffiti and vandalism.
  • Maintain regular records of areas covered, cleaning carried out, problem areas found and hours worked.
  • Follow all health and safety instructions, operational procedures, training and relevant risk assessments for grounds maintenance activities.
  • Use PPE, machinery, tools and equipment correctly and responsibly, carrying out pre-use checks where required and reporting defects or concerns immediately.
  • Participate in consultations, toolbox talks, safety briefings, training sessions and risk assessment activities.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of colleagues, contractors, volunteers and members of the public using Council open spaces.
Requirements
  • Friendly, approachable and professional at all times.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and perform designated tasks safely, accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to adhere to all current and future health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to demonstrate pride in your work and in keeping community facilities to a high standard.
  • Ability to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including outdoor manual work in all weather conditions, operating ride-on machinery, lifting and moving equipment and prolonged periods of standing and walking over uneven ground.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Experience:

  • Experience using a range of grounds maintenance tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Experience in cleaning, property and/or grounds maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Health and safety, property and grounds maintenance or play area inspection qualifications.
