Grounded Community is looking for a new Treasurer who can use their skills to ensure our charity’s financial viability.
We are a charity based in Boscombe, Bournemouth. We work with others to give our community access to healthy, nutritious food. We grow fruit and veg, we provide education and workshops, we redistribute food surplus and we create networks to help others share food.
We need someone who thrives as part of a dynamic group of Trustees, who is willing to champion the charity, who is passionate about the work of the charity and also who values seeing the impact that our work can make.If you think you have the experience, knowledge and passion to help support us to continue to meet the needs of the local community we serve, we would love to hear from you.
Overall Responsibilities
- To oversee the financial affairs of Grounded Community to ensure that they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
- To ensure that proper financial accounting records are kept and that effective procedures are in place.
- To monitor and report on the financial health of grounded Community.
- To oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
- To liaise with relevant staff, Board Members and/or volunteers of Grounded Community to ensure the financial viability of the charity.
- To make fellow Trustees aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial date to them.
- To regularly report the financial position of Grounded Community at the Board of Trustee meetings.
- To oversee and assist in the production of Grounded Community’s annual budget and propose its adoption and the relevant accounting controls are in place.
- To ensure proper financial records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place ie. purchasing systems and limits, reporting tools etc.
- To appraise the financial viability of Grounded Community’s plans, proposals and feasibility studies, if any.
- Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors/an independent examiner
General Roles and Responsibilities as a Trustee
- To ensure that Grounded Community complies with its governing document, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- To ensure that Grounded Community pursues it objects as defined in its governing document.
- To ensure that Grounded Community uses it resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.Furthermore, that Grounded Community spends its money on activities which are only included within its own objects.
- To contribute actively to Grounded Community’s Board of Trustees role in giving strategic direction to Grounded Community, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- To safeguard the good name and values of Grounded Community.
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of Grounded Community.
- To ensure the financial stability of Grounded Community.
- To protect and manage the property of Grounded Community and to ensure the proper investment of Grounded Community’s funds.
- To attend the Board of Trustees meetings held throughout the year, usually 2 hours, every other month, ideally in person.
Other aspects of the role
- Trustees may be asked to support Grounded Community in other ways as agreed with the Chair of Trustees (including representing Grounded Community at public events, giving advice/support to Grounded Community’s staff etc).
- Trustees are expected to adhere to Grounded Community’s Code of Conduct for Trustees based on Nolan’s seven principle of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
Person Specification
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and financial practices/management.
- Good financial analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
- Commitment to Grounded Community objects and values.
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
- Willingness to speak their mind
- Ability to think creatively
- Good independent judgement
